How Important IS Social Media for Businesses?

Part 2

We’ve given you 3 reasons we believe social media is vital (see Part 1), but just in case you needed more convincing, or possibly some more inspiration, today we’re highlighting 3 more reasons social media is an important tool to get customers craving your business.

1. Brand Awareness
2. Customer Engagement
3. Competition

1. Brand Awareness

As of October 2018, the social media platform Facebook had over 2 billion users. Depending on your business, you may want to eventually reach people outside of your local community. We won’t lie to you, spreading your content to the masses is a very difficult art to master, and it won’t happen overnight, however these platforms have little tools that can help you start accessing more people almost immediately. For instance, get your friends, family, and loyal customers to share event posts on Facebook, or to send you as a recommendation to their friends. Encourage people to tag you or check in at your location, and suddenly new potential customers are hearing about you, seeing pictures of you, and getting curious. Your reputation increases with growing awareness and impressions. Build a strategy to take advantage of the brand awareness that social platforms can provide!

2. Customer Engagement

On top of increased brand awareness, social media also allows you to engage with your new followers, and they with you. Customers trust brands who respond to questions, reviews, and comments. Additionally, your customers’ friends can see and be influenced by any engagement they have with your brand. To put it simply, social media can serve a function in your business’s PR.

3. Competition

There are a ton of cool motivations to utilize social media, but as a last point we’ll acknowledge a heavier one: your competitors are doing it! You don’t want to be left behind, so stay front of mind and show what distinguishes you in your market. Even if your business isn’t drastically benefitting directly from social media, it does influence your reputation. Most business owners today realize that social media is necessary and utilize it at some level for their business. The question is, while they are working to make their business look appealing and establishing rapport with potential customers, what are you doing?
