September was an extraordinary month for Flint Avenue, LLC. Our founder and CEO, Amy Wood, was honored with the 2024 Lewis Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award from the National Small Business Association (NSBA). This prestigious award was presented in Washington, D.C., during the NSBA Washington Presentation, where nearly 200 small business owners and advocates gathered to meet with Congress and discuss the realities and needs of small businesses.
The Flint Avenue team is immensely proud of Amy for receiving this well-deserved recognition. Her achievement reflects not only her success as a business leader but also her unwavering dedication to advocating for small businesses nationwide. This year, Amy also accepted a seat on the NSBA Board of Trustees, reinforcing her role as a leading champion for the small business community.
The Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year Award honors individuals who demonstrate:
A commitment to advocating for small businesses beyond their own industry,
A history of volunteer efforts that benefit the broader small business community,
Proven success in advancing pro-small business policies and
Personal success and growth as a small business owner.
Since 2009, the Shattuck Award has celebrated small business leaders who embody the legacy of Lew Shattuck, a former U.S. Small Business Administration board member and tireless advocate for small businesses. His dedication to mentorship and advocacy inspires the standards of this award—and Amy exemplifies these qualities every day at Flint Avenue.
Small businesses are vital to the U.S. economy. According to the National Association for the Self-Employed, they contribute roughly 44% of U.S. economic activity and have created about 64% of all new jobs since 2000. Advocating for policies that foster growth and stability in this sector supports entrepreneurs and the broader workforce and economy.
The NSBA itself has a rich history rooted in small business advocacy. Founded in the 1930s by DeWitt McKinley Emery, the association was initially formed to address the unfair treatment small businesses faced in the aftermath of the Great Depression. Today, the NSBA continues its mission to support and advocate for small businesses across the nation. At Flint Avenue, we are honored to be led by someone like Amy Wood, who embodies the spirit of generosity, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the success of others. Amy’s clients—many of them small business owners—will tell you she’s more than a service provider; she’s a mentor, a cheerleader, and a dedicated partner in their success. We couldn’t be prouder that she’s been named the 2024 Lewis Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year.
